From defense in depth to distributed trust
DIDLab takes its name from Defense in Depth (DiD), the cybersecurity principle of multiple, complementary layers of protection.
Digital systems now span organizations, cloud infrastructure, connected devices, decentralized networks, AI systems and individuals. Protecting single systems is no longer enough. We also have to address identity, trust, privacy, data ownership, transparency, accountability and resilience.
So we extend defense in depth toward distributed and verifiable trust: security built into every layer of a system, trust established through evidence rather than unquestioned authority, and people keeping meaningful control over their information.
For us, decentralization is not only about blockchain. It is about how people, systems and organizations can work together securely without depending on unnecessary intermediaries. Transparency and privacy should reinforce each other: a trustworthy system makes the relevant claims verifiable without exposing sensitive information.
